Conventional Braces

Orthodontic Treatment & Tooth Alignment

Conventional braces use fixed brackets, an archwire and ligatures to gradually move teeth into planned positions. At BestSmile Dental Clinic in Bayan Lepas, Penang, treatment begins with an assessment of your teeth and bite to determine whether conventional braces or another orthodontic approach may be appropriate.

Conventional Braces Treatment

  • Addresses different orthodontic concerns — May be considered for crowding, spacing and certain bite irregularities.
  • Planned tooth movement — Controlled forces guide teeth gradually towards their intended positions.
  • Individual treatment planning — Your teeth, bite and orthodontic needs are assessed before treatment is recommended.
  • Ongoing orthodontic care — Treatment includes progress monitoring and post-treatment retention.

What Conventional Braces Can Help With

Conventional braces may be used when tooth alignment or bite concerns require orthodontic treatment. Brackets are bonded to the teeth and connected by an archwire, while elastic or metal ligatures secure the wire. Depending on the treatment and individual circumstances, metal or ceramic brackets may be used.

Treatment may be considered for crowded or misaligned teeth, gaps between teeth and certain bite irregularities. Orthodontic planning considers both tooth alignment and the patient's bite rather than focusing only on making teeth appear straighter.

Who May Be Suitable for Conventional Braces?

Conventional braces may be considered for children, teenagers and adults who require orthodontic treatment. Age alone does not determine suitability.

An orthodontic assessment considers the condition of your teeth, your bite and the type of tooth movement required. For younger patients, BestSmile also provides Early Orthodontic Assessment to evaluate developing teeth and bite where appropriate.

Conventional Braces, Self-Ligating Braces or Clear Aligners?

BestSmile provides Conventional Braces, Self-Ligating Braces and Clear Aligners. Conventional braces use ligatures to secure the archwire, while self-ligating braces use a self-ligating bracket system. Clear Aligners instead use a planned series of removable aligners.

The appropriate option depends on your teeth, bite, treatment requirements and personal preferences rather than appearance alone.
