What a Dental Check-Up Helps With
Not every dental concern is immediately obvious. A Dental Check-Up gives us an opportunity to assess your current oral condition rather than waiting until a problem becomes more noticeable.
Depending on your individual needs, we may assess your teeth for cavities, decay, existing restorations or other changes. We can also examine your gums and, where relevant, consider your bite, tooth alignment and specific concerns you raise during the visit.
What Happens If We Find a Dental Problem?
The appropriate next step depends on what we identify during your assessment. We may discuss Scaling and Polishing, Dental Fillings or Aesthetic Fillings, Preventive Dental Sealants, Root Canal Treatment, periodontal care or orthodontic assessment where relevant.
At BestSmile Dental Clinic, we provide General Dentistry alongside specialist support in Orthodontics, Oral Surgery and Periodontics. This allows us to consider further assessment or treatment according to your individual dental needs rather than following the same pathway for every patient.
Dental Check-Up vs Scaling and Polishing
A Dental Check-Up and Scaling and Polishing are related services, but they have different purposes.

When Might Dental Imaging Be Needed?
Dental X-rays are not automatically required at every check-up. Where additional information is needed, we can use appropriate dental imaging according to the clinical situation.
At BestSmile Dental Clinic, we have Panoramic 2D X-ray and Planmeca ProMax 3D Classic CBCT technology. We also use an intra-oral camera to support visual examination, clinical documentation and patient communication, while our iTero Element Plus digital scanner supports 3D digital impressions, orthodontic assessment and digital visualisation for appropriate cases.
These technologies support our clinical assessment and treatment planning rather than replacing professional judgement.
Dental Check-Ups for Children
We also provide Dental Check-Ups as part of our Children's Dentistry and preventive-care services. A child's visit can include assessment of the teeth and oral condition, oral-health education and consideration of additional preventive care where appropriate.
Our Associate Dentist, Dr. Edric Tan Wei Khing, has a special interest in Paediatric Dentistry, including Children's Dental Care, Preventive Dentistry, Dental Sealants and family dental education.
